    In 1910, a Belgian baker introduced a puff pastry called couques au beurre, which was sweeter and creamier than the French croissant. The rich buttery taste gave the pastry its name: butter cake.

The dove

The logo was designed by the nephew of my late friend Liesbeth: Pim Kastelein. Just before his aunt Liesbeth passed away, she asked me to encourage Pim to pursue his creative ambitions. So I asked him to design the logo.

C.O.O.K.I.E was born.

It felt right immediately: A dove that brings love.

What is the story behind C.O.O.K.I.E. au Beurre?

I, Danielle Winkel, would like to make the world a little softer. Baking has helped me enormously. After four years of grief and loss, I was sitting at home, overworked, on the couch. To treat myself and others, I baked cakes and cookies. I had also done that for my mother when we cared for her at home during the final months of her life.

After that, I baked cakes for my friend Liesbeth, for the Sunday farewell drinks where people could say goodbye to her. She passed away in 2024.

With this C.O.O.K.I.E. au Beurre, you are essentially saying to someone: "I SEE YOU."

Who bakes our butter cake?

Our butter cake is made by Gerrit Hilhorst, a pastry chef who bakes the most delicious traditional Dutch butter cake.

How long does this C.O.O.K.I.E. stay fresh?

From the moment it is shipped, it stays fresh for 12 days (in the bag)!

Which allergens does butter cake contain?

EGG: The butter cake contains EGG.

  • GLUTEN: The butter cake contains GLUTEN. Unfortunately, there is currently no gluten-free variant.
  • LACTOSE: The butter cake contains no LACTOSE.
  • NUTS: No NUTS are processed into the butter cake, but NUTS are used in the kitchen.
  • LEMON: The cookie contains fresh LEMON ZEST.
